Service and Sacrifice – Free Veteran Home Care Services

From the beginning of American history, there have been veterans.  Until the 1920’s care for them mostly fell to their families with little support or consideration for their service, much less a pension.  In order to remedy this situation, the VA (Veterans Administration) was created in 1929, charged with the following responsibilities:  veteran medical services, disability compensation, pensions for the army and navy as well as retirement payments.  These functions had previously been spread out between three different government departments, with the creation of the VA a single all-encompassing agency was created to provide services to veterans, this marked the beginning of the bureaucracy we have today.

It will not come as any surprise to those that have dealt with the VA that it is not the easiest agency to navigate.  Advantage recognized the opportunity and need to assist veterans and spouses of veterans in need.  Advantage reached out to VeteranCare to partner.  VeteranCare, an organization, located in Florida, assists veterans and their families in navigating the red tape of getting the services they have earned through their service in the United States Military. At no charge, Veteran Care will help submit the paperwork needed to get access to a program called “Aid and Attendance” which allows veterans with an established need to receive in home care funding.

Beth Ely was one of Advantage and VeteranCare’s clients. Her father, a veteran of the Korean War, was heading home after rehab. Mom has dementia, and Beth has a full-time job that limited her ability to care for her mother while her father was recuperating.  Advantage Private Home Care connected Beth with VeteranCare upon her father’s release from rehab, since he was still too unstable to care for himself and his wife.  Advantage Private Home Care assisted with meal preparation, daily living activities, and light housekeeping.  It should be noted that VeteranCare will allow care and cover the expenses of care so that veterans or spouses of veterans can get Advantage’s service while pending the approval of the veteran’s paperwork to process through the VA. As a result, the veteran and their family are able to get the services they need when they need it without having to endure a long wait and a lot of bureaucratic red tape which could take a minimum of 3 months to get approved.

“The aid they sent to my parents has been a God send. It gives me peace of mind, to know my Father was able to recover at home and still have my Mother with him and looked after.” – Beth Ely

Advantage Private Home Care is proud to be a preferred provider of care for VeteranCare’s clients in Georgia. We respect their sacrifice for their country and their service, the least we can do is provide those who have given so much with the very best care.

When you need to utilize your long-term care insurance, you will have to show that your loved one has two or more daily living complications. For example, that they are unable to perform two daily living activities on their own, such as bathing, dressing, or preparing a meal or that they suffer from a cognitive impairment.  In Joan’s case, we provide two caretakers that come in and handle things for her mother and her husband; this takes the burden off Joan’s shoulders and allows her to enjoy her time with her husband and mother rather than always having to see to both of their needs.

We are honored to assist Beth’s parents and to see to it that they get the best care possible. We value and appreciate our partnership with Veteran Care and hope that this blog is just a small highlight to the services they provide.

“Daniel and Michael were super responsive. They were so flexible about everything.” -Beth Ely
