Helping Families Get Better; A Story of Recovery for Mr. Jay L.

Mr. Jay had been in and out of hospitals due to his Minimal Change Disease. MCD is a Kidney disorder where there is damage to the glomeruli, the tiny filtering units in the kidney that remove waste products from the blood. The poor filtration of the blood means that there can be higher protein levels in your urine, and it leads to leakage into the tissues that result in edema of the legs and elsewhere on the body.

MCD is typically a childhood disorder but it can still afflict adults. In the case of Mr. Jay, he was afflicted as an adult and this resulted in frequent hospital visits

After one such visit, Mr. Jay was released from the hospital without any care instructions or home assistance, such as a Home Health company or a private duty company to assist his transition back to the home setting. Upon returning home, Mr. Jay, who was 73 years of age and a very tall man, became weaker, and his wife was unable to assist him up the stairs to their bedroom. Due to this lack of assistance, Mr. Jay sustained a serious fall and it became apparent that he would need additional help. At this point, his family reached out to Advantage Private Home Care to request assistance.

Daniel, the owner, came to the family’s home to meet with everyone and assess the situation to ensure the best possible outcome. The family appreciated Daniel’s hands on approach by coming to them and not trying to determine their needs over the phone.  Advantage was able to set up continuous hourly care for Mr. Jay, utilizing their skilled team of Certified Nursing Assistants.  Because of Daniel and Advantages vast experience in providing home health care, he was able to work with a third party home healthcare company to assist with Skilled Nursing, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy, all of which are covered by Medicare.   By looking at all payment options, Advantage was also able to educate the family about a Long Term Policy they had in place.  Many times these policies do assist in paying for the continuous hourly care that Advantage provides.  Mr. Jay’s son, Craig, who lives far from his parents, was grateful that Daniel had taken the time to visit and look things over.  Craig knew that Daniel had things in hand and was taking the necessary steps to secure his father’s recovery.

“Knowing I could count on the advice Daniel was giving me on my dad’s situation gave me the security that I needed to know I was doing the right things and taking the right steps for my father’s care.” -Craig L.

We are happy to report that Mr. Jay made a full recovery and no longer needs to have homecare services.

“I know I can call on Daniel and Advantage Home Care, should we need their services again. I trust Daniel completely with my father’s care.” – Craig L.
