The Story of Roberta M.: Helping A Family Find Their Way To Recovery

Roberta M’s daughter, Kathy Zusmanis contacted Advantage Private Home Care after her mother had been released from the rehab facility where she was being treated for a broken hip.  While in the care of a hospital and rehab center, Kathy’s mom developed hospitalinduced delirium and dementia. The delirium and dementia was an added burden of stress to Kathy and made caring for her mother more arduous. Kathy had utilized a couple of Homecare agencies but was not satisfied by the level of care her mother was receiving.

In some cases, Kathy was finding her mother’s needs were not being tended to by the caretaker and that they lacked engagement. Kathy was frustrated and tired of having to deal with individuals who couldn’t seem to care less about the needs of her mother. The last straw came when one of the caregivers had a conversation regarding Roberta’s care in front of her, which should have been a private conversation with Kathy. Though Roberta was unable to speak, she was perfectly capable of hearing, and she showed added signs of anxiety.

Kathy was at her wits end when a social worker from a Home Health company came in to visit and provided a list of resources to help Kathy with the care of her ailing mother.  Kathy was advised that she should try Advantage Private Home Care due to their attention to detail and their experience working with Home Health companies and dementia.  Kathy contacted Advantage Private Home Care and spoke with Daniel Levy, the owner.

“Daniel came out to the house and visited, after hearing the history of what had happened and looked around to get a better understanding of the situation. He asked me what I felt I needed. That to me was one of the best things. “ Kathy Zusmanis

Advantage Private Home Care came in and assessed the situation. Learning the patient’s and families needs and concerns in order to decide on the best course of action and to determine a good fit with staff. We sent a person that evening to assist with the care so that Kathy could get some muchneeded rest from caring for her mother. We called the next day and every day afterward to make sure everything was handled to the client’s specifications.  If there was an issue or someone there that was not a good fit for them, it was addressed immediately.

With great and consistent care, the client got better. As of the writing of this article, Advantage is no longer providing care for Ms. Roberta, an outcome that we are euphoric to have been a part of.

“Even though Daniel knew it was a temporary situation, he still worked his hardest to make sure that all the needs were being met.” Kathy Zumanis

The outcome for Ms. Roberta is a happy one. Advantage Private Home Care stepped in and assisted this family so that the family could rest, and the patient could improve. We developed a plan for recovery, and it succeeded.

“The critical phase is over. There is peace of mind knowing we can call Daniel and Advantage Private Home Care, and they will be there if we need them.”  Kathy Zumanis
