There is No Place Like Home

Sometimes there is no place like home when it comes to recovery. Many doctors today are even prescribing patients to go home and receive rehabilitation or other recovery services from the comfort of their own beds. Why? Because patients tend to have fewer complications and are more likely to heal faster when in their own surroundings. There is less stress for the patient when in familiar surroundings, such as their own bedroom. This comfort allows for patients to relax more and to get more rest out of the hospital setting, where vitals are taken every 4 hours or so. After most surgeries, it’s important for patients to get up and move. When they are in their familiar surroundings, a patient is more likely to follow this advice, because distances are familiar and don’t appear to be as far. This early movement after surgery increases the patient’s ability to heal faster. However, for those patients that don’t have a family member to care for them, they may not be able to take advantage of this home recovery process. There is also the greater responsibility that is put onto the family, to be present for the recovering patient’s needs. With work schedules and the demands of daily life, this can put a great deal of strain on the family as well as being a less than ideal situation for the patient. Advantage Private Home Care provides “live-in” services on a short term basis to assist the family and the patient with this type of care.  There are a lot of things that need to be coordinated when a loved one comes home from the hospital but still needs rehabilitative care. Having a Certified Nursing Assistant there to make sure that physical therapy is happening and that the Registered Nurses are coming in to do follow up is imperative to getting that loved one back on their feet as soon as possible. A good example of this kind of care involved the Kain Family. Carol Kain was referred to Advantage Private Home Care by a friend. She had just been through knee replacement surgery and at 70 years old, healing was going to take a bit of time. It has been common practice in the past for a doctor to send a patient like this to a rehabilitation facility till they could regain full use of their knee. But with more and more patients getting infections because of this process, some doctors are now sending them home to heal and complete physical therapy. Mrs. Kain had 4 weeks of short-term care, provided by Advantage Private Home Care. The round the clock care that was provided included Mrs. Kain’s meal preparation, bathing assistance, and doctor appointments. Advantage Private Home Care assigned Robin, a well-qualified attendant, to assist the Kain family with these functions. Robin stayed with Mrs. Kain and according to her son Neil became “like family” to his mother.
“Daniel and Michael are incredible to work with; they were on top of the whole process.” – Neil Kain (Son of Carol Kain)
